Appirio’s Mobile Practice Introduces New Mobile Application Framework

New Framework Makes It Easier, Cheaper to Build and Manage Native iOS Apps for Salesforce CRM
San Mateo, Calif. - June 13, 2011 - Appirio, a cloud solution provider, offers a set of mobile-focused services that help enterprises more easily and cost effectively architect, develop and manage mobile apps using the power of public cloud platforms. Today Appirio announced a new mobile application framework underpinning these services, which enables consultants and customers to build custom, native mobile apps without writing native iOS device code. The framework leverages the Force.com cloud platform to help manage mobile apps in real-time without requiring any redeployment.

“Companies that can harness the power of the cloud and mobile in a smart way will get the best of both worlds,” said Narinder Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at Appirio. “Unlike web apps that happen to run on mobile devices, mobile cloud apps give companies a better way to centralize the control and the maintenance of apps while taking advantage of the cool features, performance and offline capabilities that only native apps offer.”

Appirio’s mobile-specific technology-enabled service offerings were created based on engagements with companies like RehabCare, Brown-Forman and VMware where Appirio helped to create and deploy mobile apps to make employees more productive, sales professionals more effective, and customers more engaged.

A Better Way to Build and Manage Mobile Cloud Apps
Appirio’s new mobile application framework allows developers with little or no iOS experience to create solutions that combine the speed and usability of a native mobile app with the flexibility and manageability of the cloud. It also enables iOS apps to be updated in real-time, in the field without needing to redeploy. There's no need to re-compile, re-test, and re-deploy code, so there is significant time savings when maintaining and enhancing these apps.

The framework, which is part of Appirio’s growing cloud asset library of tools and technologies, also offers a foundation for Force.com developers to create any type of app template that consultants or admins can use to extend the functionality of their Salesforce.com sales, service and collaboration cloud investments.

Using this framework, Appirio has already built pre-existing templates for field surveys, location-based apps, time and activity tracking apps, as well as search and display apps. These templates will be used by Appirio’s own internal cloud experts who are certified in Salesforce.com and Apple solutions.

These frameworks will also be used by a growing network of third-party developers from the CloudSpokes developer community. CloudSpokes is a crowdsourcing community for cloud development founded by Appirio in February, which has since grown to nearly 10,000 members. The CloudSpokes community has already produced a native iPad app that allows users to “find” and “check-in” to nearby salesforce.com accounts, and there are more iOS challenges currently underway.
